Here is a response by a former students, your thoughts:
“So many depending on how you look at it. It is crazy to think you could have online property, however, if someone is coming on a social network in which you have a page, could this not be considered your personal space if they are having people post negative things, lies, or basically harassing you. You could even go and say if someone was bullying you by calling you names, as childish as this may be, I would go as far as to say you could get them for defamation of character.
We are at a point now that the old idea of “I’ll just cut the computer off” doesn’t work anymore. People make lives on these sites and become glued to them to keep up with people because obviously free nights and weekends on their phones is not sufficient, e-mail is “so yesterday”, etc.. We have begun to see a future where people depend on the internet and these sites. I mean really, people are buying high dollar phones and not even using them as phones,
they are just miniature computers for them. The new Galaxy does something like automatically update your Facebook account, or something like that I heard, and it is supposed to be a phone. I personally do not understand this rational. I mean, for work, yes, there are business men and women who I can see needing to have internet readily available in this day and age, but these are 13 and 14 year old kids carrying these around.
So to get to my point, we are seeing where our personal profiles are just that, personal, yet they are open in many ways and any form of bullying could eventually turn into just as serious a crime as physically pushing someone around. Here is a for instance. In Mississippi, we passed what is called the castle law. If I carry a hand gun, I can shoot someone who is on my land (not just in my house) so long as I believe they are on my property to do physical harm to me. Sound simple enough? Here is a side catch to this law. In my car, I can conceal a gun because in this law, there is a clause that states that my car is an extension of my personal and household property. It is considered like a house on wheels in other words. The point this is making is that it may sound crazy when I say that I feel these sites will get to that point, but based on actions I have seen taken in laws passed such as this, I would say it is feasible to think this could happen.”
